De 'DE' merklap. The 'DE' needlework sampler.

I don't suppose the Englisch speaking readers know about the needlework sampler wich turned up in a commercial from our national coffee brand 'Douwe Egberts'.
A Dutch international model we are proud of, Doutze Kroes, showed up in that commercial. She was visiting her grandma and drinking that perfect coffee ofcourse, but in the background we saw a needlework sampler and then someting happend.... Berthi searched for the origing and here you can read what happend (only in Dutch :-).
Dit even ter inleiding.....

As I wrote in my last blogpost, my studio is getting decorated so I think you can imagine what is happening in our house :-)
I thought I was a well organised person and I put this lovely little basket with my quilting things.
Yesterday I opened the basket and then I found this in it...
And when I looked even better I saw this..

The fabric and some colours embroidery yarn to embroider the, in The Netherlands worldfamous sampler.  And how much have I embroidered by now?
Slechts een kleurenproefje op een restje stof.
Only a colour sample at a srap piece of that fabric.

But there is a exposition from those newly embroidered samplers and Berthi knows everything about it ofcourse, in Dutch again but click here.

Prachtig he.
Beautiful isn't it.

Groetjes, Karin

An interesting link. I learned a lot about the dutch pattern-samplers when I had a subscription of the interesting dutch magazine "Ornamente", the german translation of "Handarbeiden zonder grensen". It is a pity that it doesn´t exist anymore.
Lot´s of greetings

We like to watch a TV show here, Antiques Roadshow, and I'm always fascinated when the samplers come up, especially to hear the history of the women who made them. Lovely work!
I hope that your studio turns out just the way that you want it to,
Judy
